Differences

They said I was a kid,

That I hadn’t grown up,

That I needed to learn to take responsibility,

To be the man in-charge,

So I decided to grow,

And grown I have,

I’ve grown over time,

Probably overgrown my time,

Overgrown myself,

I no longer feel at home,

No longer at ease,

They dream,

I chase,

They implement,

I articulate,

It’s no longer the same,

They hide their guise behind that smile,

Not willing to run the mile,

I guess it’s time to say goodbye,

I do, you say,

That’s the difference.

I learn faster than I forget,

Listen to more than I hear,

Observe more than I see,

The difference between 911 and 9/11?

One came crashing,

The other couldn’t do a thing,

When you have people lined up,

To see you go back to your maker,

Shed a tear then drink a bottle,

Share a story,

True or false,

Console your girl,

On her knees she falls,

And the draws follow suit,

They know the weak break down,

Behind curtains,

They reap,

From the grief and when she weeps,

The nature of human beings,

You never overlook the differences.

I see their changing faces,

Mutating phases,

I’ve learnt to tighten my laces,

Because I’m running away from that life,

No more deceit,

No conceit,

I promise to make amends,

Not for my actions,

No,

For my associations,

I was created in the Lord’s image,

Therefore, I am perfect,

And I shall not change,

Not for you,

For them,

Or for anyone,

Because that what makes me me,

The crazy gait,

Oldie fashion sense,

Lewd language,

That’s who I am,

I am who I am,

The differences make me.

You keep getting better and wiser… * I will take several seats and welcome your growth

    • I’m learning fav. There’s a very small window of opportunity to actually grow and I think I’m experiencing mine, albeit at a fast rate. The changes are there but as long as it’s for the better I’m not looking back. Glad you enjoyed it.
